Art: submerge by Artist M. Briquette
In essence my paintings are self portraits. I use my body to make the shapes on the canvas. The traditional concept of a nude painting is that an artist is painting the figure of a nude model, but I have juxtaposed that and become both the model and the painter. These are not paintings of a nude, but paintings in the nude....I am the paintbrush. In some ways you might even call it performance art because of the whole process I go through of painting my body to make each painting. I like the organic forms that occur when I press my body against the canvas, and I feel that I can manipulate the paint to better articulate different moods by using my hands and fingers. I do use paint brushes, but I don't like to be limited to them.

This is painting #2 in a series of 12 paintings entitled, "Breasts: The Mood Series." Each of these paintings was made by covering my breasts in various paints, then pressing my breasts against the canvas. In some cases the canvas was already wet with a base painting when I pressed my breasts onto it.....other times I would start with a virgin canvas that was dry, press my breasts onto that and then add more paint on or around my breast prints. I feel like each painting strikes a different mood or evokes a different feeling...even thought they are all of the same theme.
