Theodore Geisel was an author, using Dr. Seuss as a pseudonym. But he was also an artist who took his painting seriously. Seuss worked in watercolor, gouache and ink, creating as one would expect, nutty images, and a touch of nonsense. His work was characterized by bright colors against a much darker background. There was more than a touch of surrealism. You can see these paintings in the book "The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss" In honor of the artist Geisel as well as the author Seuss, I painted a cat and a whimsical moon, with a dark background and bright colors that make the cat pop out of the painting.
