Art: Parking Lot Views in Sedona by Artist John Nadon
SOLD - In 2004 this acrylic painting was done unexpectedly on my trip to Sedona, New Mexico. It was my first trip outside of New Jersey after surgery to remove a brain tumor. I had not painted in some time, and this piece was done as a reaction to my early morning visits to the parking lot of the large shopping mall where I went each morning to get some good coffee. In that shopping mall parking lot the red rock background of the surrounding mountains was just overwhelming - simply inspiring. So one morning I bought my coffee as usual, and then some bottles of water, and then went into the mall to a small shop and bought some simple acrylics, brushes, a pallete and a canvas to do a piece. Unable to do it in the big shopping mall parking lot, and not wanting to do it at my brother's house, I just drove a few minutes down the street following the "vortex view" signs I saw, and found a little parking lot across the road from the ridge with this view. This piece is one of only a few I've done on site - indoors or out - and at the time I felt like I was doing a study of a later formal work of a larger size and in oil that I could do. I liked this piece when I finished and while there did a small series of works and several more based on my trip to Sedona, all in acrylics, when I got back to New Jersey.
