It wasn't until I re-appeared with camera in hand that the spider appeared. I wasn't quite sure of what had gotten tangled up in the barely discernable and elaborate web that extended some 2-3ft. from a bayberry bush to a hanging streptocarpus.
As I began to focus in on the object, to identify and photo it, I was startled by the moving object emerging from the streptocarpus seen in my peripheral vision.
With a show of ownership, the (large!) cross spider boldly presented itself to me by guarding its prey. The message was taken seriously, however, I continued to photograph.
This is one of two photos of this duo I've selected for the show. Their numerical order has nothing to do with importance or series other than this one affords a view of the bottom of the spider...and more than eerie view of the dragonfly.
As grotesque as this photo may seem initially, there is a beauty, a sense of poetry present...the dragonfly with its green, turquoise and delicate lacy wing resembles a piece of fine jewelry.
As quickly as this appeared, it disappeared. All was gone the next day.
