I decided awhile back that it would be fun to start painting 3D objects, and this is my first attempt. My husband acquired this rather large penguin at a yard sale. I should have taken a "before" picture. It was simply black and white (of course), and somewhat scuffed up. I think it was originally a Christmas/yard decoration. We plopped it on our front porch for awhile. With time, the desire to paint the penguin grew stronger, and I wanted it to be very un-penguin-like, meaning, not just black and white, but as colorful as possible. With very little planning, I began to paint the colorful patterns on the cheeks, and the design grew from there. I had no idea during the process what the final design would be like, but in the end, I was completely satisfied.
I had this piece ready and waiting for the Penguin exhibit (Jan 2014), but life happened and I completely forgot about entering it into the show! So here it is... Better Late Than Never. :)
