Art: Monster of the Deep by Artist Elizabeth Paige VanSickle
This is one of my most special pieces. Most of the material used is from recycled "JUNK". It was built using wood pegs, chicken wire, junk mail flyers/newspaper, football shoulder pads, moss, acrylic paint, duct tape, and plaster. Over 60 percent of material was junk mail used to form the creature itself before plaster was applied. As much as we get junk mail-the weight of the paper is perfect to hold up to the weight of the plaster and water that is applied. For me, junk mail has a terrific purpose! I have saved junk mail flyers for recycling-now I save it to use in artwork of all kinds- it came in handy for this special guy. It weighs 150 lbs! It is life size at 6'2'. Who says making things out of junk isn't art???
