To turn something useless into something useful felt like the way to go when accepting the challenge of using junk mail as art supplies. This piece of functional art is a generic, refillable diaper wipe tub. Like many artists, I use diaper wipes for quick clean ups in my studio. To make this, I combined paper mache and collage methods using thinned glue so it would dry clear, then finished it with several clear coats of a spray sealer. Except for 3 postage stamps added to indicate the paper used arrived in the mail, all the paper is junk mail, mostly sale flyers, weekly catalogs, an auto insurance offer, and some coupons for automobile repair. (Ironic considering that I do not own an automobile.) As I worked on this piece, I could not help noticing the same words being used repeatedly in all these sale flyers. Call now.. Free.. Only... so I had to play with it, trimming a Free Catalog down to Free Cat, thus creating a theme. Thank you for viewing my art!
