I really love watercolor but struggle with this medium most of all. This piece was an exercise in using water soluble pencils which was actually quite fun. I am a control freak when it comes to my art and the ability to still have some modicum of control over the placement of the pigment was easier for me to deal with than it is when using traditional watercolor applied with a brush. To make matters worse, it was done on bristol board, not watercolor paper so there was very little room for absorption of pigment or the ability to move the color around on the paper after it was applied... I chose to do this painting mainly as an exercise in using different materials and so my work wasn't quite as controlled as it normally is. Water soluble pencils on bristol board.
