This is the state flower of New jersey. Amazing it took one of the garden clubs in the state to give us an offical flower. This piece is an ACEO so the size is 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". I always leave a border for framing. The medium used is watercolor and pen and ink on arches 140 lb hot press watercolor paper.
When we first started gardening I used to remove this precious weed in the front of the house. Now I am thrilled with anything that has a bloom on it. WE have a voracious gopher who thinks that we plant everything for his benefit. At one point i was upset by a farmer who was shooting them in his garden...now I just might consider asking him to come over to our house and take a few pot shots at the nasty critter who eats all of our flowers. Just kidding!! WE try to crate them up and take them to someone elses garden whenever they show up.
