The Star

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are !
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.

Ann Taylor (1782-1866) and Jane Taylor (1783-1824)
were well known poem and hymn writers towards the end
of the
18th Century. While most of us are familiar with the
first verse from the poem as a nursery rhyme, it was
in fact written as a poem by the two sisters and
published in 1806.
I picture these two romantic young sisters writing
this poem (at age 23 and 24)
nostalgically recalling the innocence and wonder of
their childhood.
Inspired by their lovely poem - I see an angelic child
earnestly gazing up at the stars and seeing magical possibilities.
