For Dia de los Muertos, Doña Carmela is Leaving Offerings On Her Own Alter. Growing up, I heard many unsettling stories from my mother which she heard growing up in the colonial town of Guanajuato, Mexico. As I recalled her spooky tales, like "La Llorona", I conjured up a tale of my own of a envious former beauty whose life had been cut short. In the rejection of her own mortality, she would get her revenge by decapitating and leaving the heads of beautiful women as "offerings" on her own altar - perhaps in hope that her beauty will someday be recaptured in immortality.
