This is my portrayal of Medusa as a beautiful powerful woman who represents fertility, birth, death and rebirth... I was suprised to read the different beliefs and cultures associated with her and that as the cultures became patriarchal she was transformed into the monstrous demon that I learned about as a child. This piece is oil on canvas, varnished with a high gloss to bring out the amazing depth of color. It is unframed with stapled edges... but will easily fit in a premade frame.
