The portrait was created in only a few basic steps and minimal processing. First, the original digital photo was slightly cropped. Then masked areas of the photo were run through a paint synthesizing process which rendered a painted look in some areas and created distinctive highlights on the hat. A few spots on the face were digitally painted out, others were intentionally left to bend with the entire composition. Lastly, when the image was desaturated in PS, the luminous highlight on the hat rendered a silver halide effect, which gives the portrait a unique quality framing the face and creating greater focal attention.
