To me, typography is almost an essential part of my art. The written word sometimes speaks things that they eye could not see otherwise. It can add a message or convey a specific feeling that might otherwise be missed by the viewer.
In this piece I used typography to specify which of the tarot cards I was representing. Without the vintage, typewritten name along the left side of the page it might not be clear to the viewer what the image represents.
This was a piece I made for a Tarot swap in an online art group. I recreated water falling from her fingertips using beads and hand-stitched thread. The watercolor paper along the left edge is handpainted and typed with a 1920's travel typewriter.
