“The Marriage” is a portrayal of the ups and downs one usually endures while married, or when any two things unite forming a larger whole.
This is a mixed media painting incorporating layers of acrylic and glazes, vine charcoal, oil pastel, and collage on professional stretched canvas. The collage is type and magazine elements which have been taken out of its element, spliced, and then superimposed in the piece. For the most part, it is unrecognizable but just simply used as a graphic element in the over all design.
When I use this technique, I am simply invoking a reaction caused when the strong sense of positive and negative (black and white) play off each other; just as you would in a marriage. When your eye moves through the painting, you are drawn to these little elements of interest, but not overwhelmed. The red background symbolizes passion and love, then encompasses the yin-yang . The blocks symbolize the necessary platform and structure any successful marriage requires.
