Art: Temperance by Artist Jen Osborn
To me, typography is almost an essential part of my art. The written word sometimes speaks things that they eye could not see otherwise. It can add a message or convey a specific feeling that might otherwise be missed by the viewer. In this piece I used typography to specify which of the tarot cards I was representing. Without the vintage, typewritten name along the left side of the page it might not be clear to the viewer what the image represents. This was a piece I made for a Tarot swap in an online art group. I recreated water falling from her fingertips using beads and hand-stitched thread. The watercolor paper along the left edge is handpainted and typed with a 1920's travel typewriter.
