This piece is purely about color. It is extremely vibrant and has both warm and cool tones. I was motivated to create it after a day of hand-dyeing fabrics for the surface design class that I teach. I was thinking "if only the colors in my paintings could turn out so brilliant". It inspired the idea to try some works on paper, and this painting and many others resulted.
