This piece emerged during a stressful time-out period last year. It represents the frustration I was feeling at the time caused mainly by the inability to RELAX. Fury was exactly the emotion I felt at that time; fury with myself for not coping. In that respect the piece was cathartic and became part of my rehabilitation. The paint tears across the canvas, hence the name. Deep reds and browns are highlighted with gold and ochre. The piece is heavily textured with layers built upon layers. The layers themselves represent the layers of emotion I was trying to contain. It contrasts heavily with other pieces painted around the same time, highlighting a peak of emotion; the paintings which followed were altogether calmer and more controlled.
