I found a piece of driftwood and began to carve it with a swiss army knife. It was the first time I ever carved anything, and it sort of turned into a gecko climbing down a spoon. The driftwood had wonderful grain but the color didn't bring it out. I had no idea how to color the wood, so I diluted some fabric dye and tried that. It was all experimental but it worked. I filled in some detail using fabric pens that I had in the house. Finally, I pried some glass "emeralds" out of an old bracelet to use for the gecko's eyes. After a great deal of wet sanding and hand-oiling, this carving was the result.
