AMERICA DIVIDED
America Divided is an Original Painting of uncertainty.
This is a very special painting. When I first started this artwork, I laid my 4 panels on the table. My plan was to create an abstract. I took my Paint pen and began scribbling lines and squiggles all over the 4 canvases. I picked up my brush wet with brown acrylic paint ready to create an abstract but what happened next is almost unexplainable. My brush started drawing and blocking in 5 faces. I had no idea where this was going so I just went with the energy flow. It took me awhile to realize that the 5 faces were woman. I continued to block the canvas in with brown paint. When I stepped back I received the vision. Facing the 4 panels beginning at my right was a lady from India. The middle was a young true blue red headed American. On the left was an old woman from China. Above her was a proud African American woman and to her left was a Mexican woman. What does this mean? I had no idea but I'm a firm believer of letting the energy flow paint the picture and not try to guess why. As I continued to paint I saw the American Flag in the background. I blocked it in still not knowing where this is all going. I painted for almost 20 hours and saw the morning sun start to rise. I was so lost in the painting I had lost all track of time. Exhausted I finally sat down and through tired eyes I looked at the partially completed painting. In between a few yawns I sat totally exhausted still not knowing why I was willed to paint these women. I went to bed. It must have been locked in my mind because I dreamt about it. The answer came. The 5 women each represent their country living in the United States. You have India, China, Africa, Mexico and they are all together in the painting with America. The 4 panels signify the uncertain division between all the countries. Even though they are part of America in the same picture, the sad truth of prejudices and ignorance keep them apart. I painted America with red hair because of her spirit. The best part is she is still very young and as she gets older may bring about change. The painting should be displayed with a 1/4 gap to show the separation. Someday I hope the gap can be eliminated and the painting can become one. If you look at the painting directly you will not see it. If you were to hold the 2 bottom panel of America up to the light, you will see the abstract lines that channeled the energy which fired my vision. Every canvas subject is predetermined by a higher force. Some Artists are more sensitive than others. America Divided was the only thing that could be painted on those panels and definitely was a spiritual experience every artist hopes for once in their lifetime.
