An intimate embrace turned eternal.

In an instant . . . with the eruption of the volcano . . . did these two lovers who lived below it realize that this embrace would be their last, yet last the longest? Their intimate embrace captured in time by the large volume of ash that came with this eruption.

Mount Vesuvius and it's history with Pompeii and Herculaneum, burying people alive in A.D. 79, was an inspiration for this piece. Living somewhat near a volcano myself, I remember when Mt. Saint Helen's erupted and spewed ash all over the N.W. . . . and the color of the ash was truly the grayest of grays!

To emphasize the "greyness" of the volcanic ash, I completed this piece entirely in grays . . . graphite, charcoal, conte and gray prismacolor premier pens; cool gray 30% and cool gray 70%.
