This elephant is a "Spirit in Stone" original. I want to emphasize that each stone is used in its' natural, unaltered shape. It has not been chiseled, chipped, drilled or manipulated in any way. It is as if God has created these images and left them for me to find. It's up to me to find them and then paint them so that you can see them, too! This particular image is painted on blue shalimar, a type of slate that occurs in the North Georgia mountains, and is mounted since the edges of the ears are thin and subject to chipping. The texture of the trunk is wrinkled as in the live animal. It's hard to portray the tactile intricacies of these 3-D stones in photos... it's their most intriguing quality.
