"Old Friend" This may seem to be a strange title for a plant, and it is,but this orchid is old.I bought this plant back in 1997 or 98,it was the first time i had seen an orchid like this for sale, and at all places, a wal-mart.Now they are common but not then.I knew nothing about growing them but the paper hanging from one of the sticks said easy care, and a few other simple things.but i still thought it would die,i was sure i would kill it.back then it only had three small leaves and one sprig with a couple of blooms and several buds.I was surprised at how long they lasted but after several weeks they did fall off,and in the mean time i had the excitement of seeing a new leaf start, then the green roots started. The first time an old leaf turned brown and dropped off i thought, well this is it,its starting to die.But it never did.It blooms twice a year, but they last a long time and i've changed to bigger pots a couple of time.It has forgiven me and stayed alive a few times in bad times when i would forget to even water it.Now it sits on my computer desk, where i spend most of my time.but i do feel as if its an old friend, when i would be at a low point,it would send up a sprig with buds which cheered me up.So yes,i can say Old Friend.
