Quirky bluebird is a paper art sculpture. All of the elements were cut, embossed, colored, shaped, clipped and glued to the base. The beak was formed out of cut paper and glued to a couple of bamboo sticks to support and hold its shape. For the body I used card stock in four different shades of blue. I then embossed the grooves of the feather texture onto the paper and used 5 different shades of blue and gray color pencil to color each individual feather. This lended a life like variance in color like you would find in nature. I cut a slit in the top of the feather in order to shape the curve of a natural feather as it covers the spire shape of the birds body. On the back of the head where feathers seem to ruffle I twisted and folded the feather circle around that slit, to change the angle and direction of the feather protrusion. To finish it off I cut a notch or two into each feather along with numerous "snips" and allowed them to bend and fold during the handling and glueing of the rest of the feathers. The finished piece is Approx 10x14" and free stands on wire legs and feet constructed out of brown florist wire and tape.
