Discontinuity is a 12”x 36”
multimedia painting using earthen material where appropriate. It is inspired by
what in geology is called a normal fault, Since I have retired from my work as
a field geologist I’ve started seeing these structures more as a metaphor for
life. Now instead of a story of rocks separating and the clues it would give me
into the areas geologic history, I now see them more metaphor, as life
presenting changes that must be meet and dealt with, usually on a daily basis,
each change sending us in a slightly different direction. As these changes
multiple I have found myself no longer seeing geology as a science but as a
spiritual evolution.
