Finally, I'm ready to introduce 'Guardian of the Sandhills' to the art world! The idea for this breathtaking fellow was conceived in November of 2011 and actually sketched on canvas in February of 2012. The pronghorn antelope's long journey began with an underpainting of warm colors.
Perched upon an easel in my bedroom, he was a constant companion, always patiently awaiting another layer of color. Each year I would paint an additional feature. First, the dramatic blue sky, sparsely populated with wispy cumulus clouds, then, several years later, the guardians wings were transformed. After that, he sat there, an imposing figure, frequently nagging me to finish him.
During Christmas break, a miracle happened. I sat down at the easel and began painting. The pronghorn quickly took shape and now, seven years after his journey began, he was finished. The majestic pronghorn will forever stand guard over his precious sandhills.
