This piece was created especially for the June Nibblefest Art Contest, the theme being a tribute to an artist or style.
This piece is an homage to one of my favorite artists, Theophile Steinlen, who had a true gift for capturing the essence of cats. I tried to capture the sketchiness of some of his cat portraits in this portrayal of my own cat, Dashiel, as well as the peacefulness of a cat napping. I used watercolor for a lovely washed background, then sketched the cat using graphite and artists' oil bars.
This piece is on gallery-wrapped watercolor stretched canvas, the sides are painted black so it can be displayed without a frame if you desire. It is signed on the front, and signed, titled and dated on the back.
This is my entry in the Nibblefest Art Contest. There are other entries for you to choose from with each entry title containing the word NFAC. Please be sure to search for NFAC to see more great entries. We appreciate it!
