Art: FOXGLOVE AND DELPHINIUM by Artist Theodora Demetriades
Foxglove is a gorgeous flower and if ingested in large amounts can actually be fatal. So this is a flower that should be avoided if you have young children who might be tempted to ingest the leaves or flowers. As a gardener I find foxglove facinating. Difficult but always worth the effort for the display that these magnificent flowers provide. (p)Up close the Foxglove is stunning in its intricate color combination. Spots that have yellows, browns, black on the main pinkish color. This flower is strictly ment to be enjoyed as a garden show piece. Because of the poisonous nature of the plant they really should not be brought indoors. Pure perfection in nature. One of the loveliest, most important plant species that has been introduced from Europe and naturalized in various parts of North America. The flowers are numerous, on a spike, and range from a deep purple to lilac with conspicuous spots interlining the throat of the tubular flower. As a biennial, the leaves form a rosette the first year followed by the flower spike the next year. Prefers a nitrogen-rich sandy loam soil, in partial sun to full shade.
