This was inspired by my morning customers at my window bird feeder. If there is one bird that I really feel sorry for it is the mild mannered Morning Dove...there is no way that they ever seem to be able to get enough food. Every other bird is able to bully them and of course the squirrels torture these poor birds. This piece is done on 140lb. Arches Watercolor paper using Sennlier and Winsor Newton watercolors. To my suprise this months FOTM is the begonia. Now this is a flower that I have grown since I was about 10 years old. We mad a pilgramage to Florida in our station wagon for a vacation in Deerfield Florida. My parents roamed around and found some beautiful gardens. So of course we ended up stuffing the car with plants from our trip. Several Begonias were included in the trunk of the car. This particular one I have been growing for over 50 years, the only name that I have known it by is the waxy leaf begonia, I also have a white version of the plant.
