Here is a ONE-OF-A-KIND butterfly fairy paper art doll. She is on a 7x7" base made of collage paper fixed to matt board, then decorated with Pearl Ex paints. I have used a vintage photo image of a lovely young woman then embellished her with a Barbie skirt. I have adorned her with butterfly wings, A real pearly post earring, a Royal crown with rhinestones, glass crystals, and a lovely Swarovski Crystal slider. Her lovely green top is covered with rhinestones. She is carrying her beloved fairy doll and dolly also has wings and a crown that I have painted with Pearl Ex paints. . There is a vintage earring fixed to her waistband. The paper images are extended off the board giving it even more of a 3-D affect. Her legs are crossed under her skirt and the skirt bows out to make it look real. I have painted her platform shoes hot pink and her finger nails and toe nails are also painted. I have hand-tinted the images using a combination of watercolor pencils and pastels.

Her pet bird sits perched at her side and she sits on a bed of roses. A lovely green feather butterfly nestles on her skirt.

I love butterflies. The whole metamorphosis that takes place between the larval, pupal, and winged stages is wonderous, but also it is sad as these creatures live such a short life once they are free from their cocoons.

I often use butterflies and moths in my work. Their beauty inspires me to create so in a sense they are the muse behind these lovely insect fairies. But a bigger inspiration comes from my love of surrealism and the idea that you can create your own world with winged fairies and things that can only be real in the imagination.
