ARTIST STATEMENT
I create collages, paintings, and dioramas using a variety of art supplies and found objects. Currently I spend a lot of time cutting images from vintage books and magazines to create surreal dreamscapes. The characters and elements within fill these collages with a visual language of curiosity. They are sometimes metaphors for my inner thoughts and memories.
Spatial harmony is significant. I balance colors to complement each other and I strive to create interplay between light and shadow, emphasizing the effects of natural light and dark sources. The placement of disproportionate items adds a touch of disharmony, but are dreams always rational?
I have have shown publicly in numerous solo and group exhibits in the United States and New Zealand. My most recent shows include Huddle #2 at Shoebox Projects and Day Dreamers at bG Gallery, both in Los Angeles, California. I first studied privately under my uncle, kinetic artist Mark Esper. I furthered my studies at City College of San Francisco and at LCC in my hometown of Lansing, Michigan. I currently live with my cats and daughter in Eugene, Oregon, and I spend as much time as possible surrounded by trees and pondering my dreams.
