The piece was created specifically for the Think Pink show. And although I prefer not to prejudice the viewer with artist intent and rather allow him/her to react viscerally or intellectually to the piece, the rules state I must.
Breast cancer is a monumental struggle not only for the patient afflicted, but also the family members (particularly children and parents), friends and even in some instances the health care providers. It is also the result of the struggle between the body and environment or hormonal changes or sometimes random unrelated circumstances.
It is in that spirit that this piece struggles within itself for style, proportion, image, color and gender identity. It is intrusive in its explicitness, but after all so is the disease.
