This is a picture of Herman's father in the lounge at the Sands in Las Vegas, September 6, 1962. Herman's dad was a promising performer and was singing at the Sands when Herman's mother broke the news. She had been taken by the way Lucy told Ricky on I Love Lucy and wanted to live that moment herself. Herman's father passed out, hit his head and required 18 stitches. Afterward, he had a phobia about singing in a tuxedo and became a pharmacist.
