This is a picture of Joshua Hastings, whom Herman met on November 28, 1997 at 3:23 AM between exits 47 and 48 on the eastbound Long Island Expressway. Herman was parked on the shoulder in his 1984 Mercedes 300D when Joshua knocked on the window and asked the titled question. Joshua disappeared an instant later when the Suffolk County Police pulled up. Herman didn't learn Joshua's name until two days later when those same police asked Herman to pick Joshua out of a lineup.
