Rachel Biddlecome

Artist's Profile

A native Oregonian, Rachel is a third generation beach-comber, with sand is in her hair and salt in her blood. Her first photographs were of childhood mud-pies decorated with sticks and other treasures. Her first drawings were with ''rock chalk'' (rocks from the local cove) with which she made images on the sidewalk for passerbys. She still loves the ocean but has now after near 15 years of marriage found a love of rural life in the woods. It is a life complete with woodpiles, trees touching the sky, and grassy hills to roll down.

Her first exhibition was in the Seaside High School library in 1994. After attending Oregon State University, in Corvallis, Oregon, Rachel returned to the ocean air. At Clatsop Community College she studied pottery, and attained her AS in General Studies. In 2000 she studied with children's book illustrators and apprenticed with various artists. In 2001 she studied under Max Grover a Children’s Book illustrator, and participated in 2 art shows. She graduated from Linfield College in 2002 after having her first son, with one on the way, with a BS degree in Sociology. Her thesis was on Homeschooling Educational Methods. Along the way she took more pottery and art courses, and sold her art online, joined many online groups and was in a variety of ezines.

She is now restarting offering her art online after an 8 year break, with little hands reaching for paint, they became much more important than creating and listing the 'typical' art online or in galleries and yet... She found new ways to express her love of art, in doing large murals in their rooms, creating elaborate birthday parties with lifesize aliens, and Veggie Tales, Dinosaurs and more.

She currently is doing a mix of collage, acrylic paintings and drawings often mixing mediums.
