Art: Frida in Flames by Artist Madeline Carol Matz
In her final diary entry, Frida Kahlo wrote "I hope the leaving is joyful and I hope never to return". On July 13, 1954, she died. Not to go quietly, at her cremation, friends gathered to mourn and say farewell to the artistic icon. As the burning began, a great blast of heat from the opened doors of the incinerator caused her body to sit bolt upright. Now in flames, her hair created a glowing halo and Frida's appearred to have an uncharacteristic knowing grin on her lips as the doors slammed shut.
