Art: Oops! I Dropped Something! by Artist Lori Rase Hall
This is my second entry for the EBSQ May 2008 show. Unmentionables: The Underwear Show It all began in 1589 when Reverend William Lee invented the knitting machine and Stockings made from wool, silk and cotton appeared for the first time. In the 20th century the industry was revolutionized. Not only did it became socially acceptable for women to show their legs, but in the 1930's Nylon was invented. When I painted these pieces I liked how the thin watercolor washes helped with the lush transparency of the stockings and shapey legs. As you can tell, shape and contour played a large part in the two entires I placed in this show. I think stockings are a gals best friend. She could be a nerd...or a farmer's daughter...or even a mechanic, but under her modest clothes she could be wearing stockings (and nothing else) and still feel very sexy. Stockings are also like high heels, in that, they aren't the most comfortable, but a girl can still wear them to bed......if her boyfriend asks Very nicely. ;) -Lori
