My name is Lisa Marie and I am a self-taught contemporary artist living in the southeastern United States.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by color, texture, and pattern. A brightly colored object demands attention. Its pattern keeps the eye moving and the mind stimulated. The texture quietly invites the hands to join in the dance of appreciation.
Of this trinity, color intrigues me the most. I all but hoard utensils of color: crayons, markers, paints, pastels, even countless bottles of nail polish. I’ve been often asked if I have a favorite color. Favorite? With so much personality, how could anyone choose between them? Is the urgency of crimson preferable than the sensual luxury of royal purple? Is the sweet whimsy of robin’s egg blue a greater treasure than the seriousness of forest green? What would life be like without the joyful shouts of sunflower yellow?
I try to make modern, abstract art that is not only vibrantly colored, but is also given even more vitality though the use of pattern and a variety of textures and finishes. I create each piece to be enjoyed as much by the hands as with the eyes so that the owner becomes a more active participant in the art.
