This piece was used for the V-day benefit March 3 and 4th in Decatur, GA. The painting was displayed before a production of the "Vagina Monologues". I painted this to represent "My Light". I tried to show empowerment and beauty. Ingrid Kuegeman wrote this beautiful statement about this painting...
Title: Radiate
MINE
my voice
my light
my beauty
my self
MINE.
My Light.
With one simple piece, Karina depicts both the inherent beauty and the great empowerment of all women.
“Woman” is complex – Woman is both strong and feminine – the words are one-in-the-same.
Through the use of radiantly colored copper, we see the reflective, beautiful side. Through the black, sturdy encompassing frame, we see the strength.
And together, the copper against the black becomes the light in the dark.
My Light.
Certificate of Authenticity is provided.
This piece is 24" x 24". It is black particle board with two panels of copper. There are two "yardstick" boards which divide each copper panel. The black strip in the middle is actually not a board--just the support board with copper nails so that it looks like a "faux" board. As with all my copper paintings, nails and hammer marks are retained. This painting will glow and change in the light. The painting is wired and ready to hang. The copper "eyes" are placed in such a way that the painting may be rewired to hang horizontally or even upside down! Each copper eye has a felt backing to protect your wall.
