I have been painting since i was a little girl. My father always spent a lot of time drawing with my sisters and I, and ever since then art has been a passion of mine. About a year and a half ago I "quit my day job" and have been a full-time artist ever since, selling originals and doing custom commissions.
What other artists and movements inform your work?
I have been affected by many artists, and I think that their influences can be seen in my work. Major inluential artists in particular include: Medieval and Renaissance artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and Hieronymus Bosch, modern Surrealists such as Salvador Dali and H.R. Giger, and the Pre-Raphaelites such as John W. Waterhouse and John Everett Millais. I am also a fan of many contemporary fantasy artists such as Larry Elmore, Keith Parkinson, Clyde Caldwell, Frank Frazetta and Mark Ryden.
How would you describe your work?
The genre I tend to categorize my work in would be "Gothic Fantasy." I often work with classical and fantasy themes, often from literature, fairy tales, or mythology. Most of my work has an ominous quality, and my colour palette is usually dark or subdued. I work primarily in acrylic paints, and I like to spend a lot of time on each painting. Technical ability and craftmanship are extremely important to me, and I believe that this shows in the intricate detail I put into my paintings. Each piece I make stands well on its own, and can easily become a focal point in the room where it is displayed.
What are your motivations for creating?
Honestly, my main motivation in creating art seems to be that I am somewhat... dissatisfied with the mundane world. By surrounding myself with small scenes of my own creation, my world is more magical and whimsical. By selling my work and sharing it with others, I feel that I have contributed in some small way to the general betterment and enjoyment of the world.
How, if at all, have the events of 9-11 impacted your art making?
The events of 9-11 were an ominous reminder of our mortality. It demonstrated the very real potential for our lives to end quickly, with no warning or reason. It is important to me to make my time on earth worthwhile and enjoyable. I think that it is important not to let terrorists win control over your life. Sticking to your personal agendas with conviction, I feel, shows true American spirit.
What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and collectors to know about you and or your work?
I encourage everybody to look at my website and the paintings I have on eBay to learn more about me and my work. It is important to me that other artists and collectors as well realize my dedication to my craft, and that they genuinely enjoy looking at my art. Collectors should bid with confidence - I put a little bit of myself in every painting I make, and I try my best to make each piece of art something to treasure.
