The dog is honest and loyal, while the fox is sly and clever. Both hail from the same species, yet each symolizes quite opposing traits. It is in the natural order of life to protect oneself with the tools given. As humans, it is a dog eat dog world; the clever appear to gain more frequently and handsomely that the loyal, whom often get trodden upon. But it is the one whom is true to himself and fair to society who wins out in the end. Sometimes it is not the physical amount of something that denotes its value, but the essence of that thing. Think ambrosia, royal jelly; think price vs. cost.
