I discovered Roy Lichtenstein in April 1991 in Chicago where I went to attend a convention with my husband. We visited the Art Institute of Chicago where the current exhibit, "High and Low: Modern Art and Popular Culture" was dedicated to Pop Art. Whether it was because I was an avid comic book devotee in my childhood, or because I was totally stricken by the power of the work itself, I decided that I would teach my art students, all about Lichtenstein, never realizing that I would also be teaching myself and in the
process, adopting a new style of painting.
This 16" x 20" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas is one of my pop art pieces rendered in that style. The betrayed woman in the painting has obviously found out something about "Bruce" that has broken her heart and is tearfully confronting him with the age old question of "How Could You?" I suppose that one could imagine alternative scenarios based on this work.
