I have always loved sea turtles and watched many shows on TV about how the mother turtle digs a hole in the sand in which she deposits her eggs. When the hatchlings finally emerge, they can be seen rushing towards the sea where they will find safety and grow to maturity. They are terribly vulnerable on land, and many do not survive their journey as sea gulls and other animals await this phenomenon with relish. I recently was browsing through a jewelry catalog when I came across a pendant and earrings with turtles encrusted with jewels and it put me in mind of the sea turtles which I have depicted in this piece. The painting is rendered in acrylic on galllery wrapped canvas and measures 12" X 9". The turtles extend all the way around the edges of the canvas and it is signed on the edge as well.
