This piece is highly textured (especially around the lips). I've been told that it resembles stained glass art, which is quite flattering to me (thanks!) I used a technique where I "smeared" the black outlines a bit, to give it a shadowy, "3-D" effect, kind of like an "oil pastel" painting, and I believe it works even though it's actually a textured acrylic painting.

It is very colorful, and abstract, with different shapes and colors throughout. Most of the colors are repeated a few times. Right smack-dab in the middle of the painting is a luscious pair of red lips just waiting for a kiss. Some of the colors I used are: red (for the lips), cobalt blue, aqua, light green, olive green, brown, yellow and pink.

The painting measures 16x20" and continues onto the sides, which are 1.5" deep, so there is no need to frame it. It is ready to hang.

I signed it on the lower right side (the actual SIDE of the painting), but owner can still hang either vertically or horizontally; whichever they prefer.

I varnished it several times,for a high gloss, protective finish.

I show a closeup as well as an angled view to show the sides painted, and I also show it hanging on my wall so you can see the "scale" of the piece as it relates to furniture.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This piece was featured in a "Brick and Mortar" exhibit here in NYC in June 2004, and was reviewed in the Sept/Oct 2004 issue of New York art magazine "Gallery and Studio" - here's what they had to say about it: "Diane G. Casey takes a bold, uninhibited post-Pop approach in paintings such as "Lips Like Sugar," where the big red lips of the title float freely among abstract forms in thick impastos applied with the consistency of cake frosting."

It was an honor to be accepted into the brick and mortar Gallery show, and even more so to have been reviewed in "Gallery & Studio". I'm sure it will command a lot of attention anywhere you put it in your home; a definite conversation starter!
