Worried Sick
This is a very colorful piece done in the "naive" or "art brut" style.
I call it "worried sick" because the person in the painting is obviously worried and in a panic stricken state.
I wanted to have the subject be recognizable as a face, but still be very abstract, wtih luminous colors floating all around him/her.
Some of the colors I used are: pthalo blue, napthol red, yellow, magenta, pthalo green, orange, purple, black and white.
There's also alot of texture in this piece. I basically let my mind go free, and painted whatever I felt like painting, wherever I felt like painting it, until I finally decided it looked "right".
I enjoyed the process quite a bit, and the final outcome was a bit of a surprise to me.
I also think it has a bit of a "New Orleans Voodoo" feel to it, with all the colors and strange things going on in it.
The deep 1.5" sides are painted a (slightly darker) pthalo blue color, (as you can see most notably in the angled photos here), so there's no need for expensive framing, and the colors in the photos here are not as "intense" or dark as they are in real life. I also include a closeup photo here for further detail of texture and colors.
It measures approx.12x12x1.5" and I signed it on the back.
Thanks for looking!
