Five Flowers on Red

I wanted to create a piece with a big burst of red color in it, as well as a lot of texture... so this is what I created.

With the deep reds in the background, this reminds me of Valentine's Day, but, a friend of mine said that it reminds her of a wedding or bridal shower gone awry; with lots of alcohol involved(!) Hmmm... I guess I can kind of see that as well, as they vases are kinda "tipsy" like they're staggering or something... about ready to fall down...almost as if someone unseen is yanking the tablecloth off of the table, and the bottles are toppling over.

Another friend said this piece reminds him of italian food (I guess it's all the red, that reminds him of yummy tomato pasta sauce)... I think it's funny and intriguing how different people see different things in paintings. Really this was just basically a vehicle for me to use a lot of deep rich, red color and also to create abstract flowers in bottles or vases that "pop" as a still life piece.... Overall I really wanted a big splash of color, as well as something that showed "movement"...

I must say I'm pleased with the results, and especially the treatment on the "flowers" where they look like they were "sketched" with pen or pencil, but in reality the lines were "drawn" with paint and I glazed over some of it to make them fade a bit. There is a lot of glaze work in this piece.

I show a close up with 2 of the flowers sort of "mingling" with each other. I also show angled views in the photos here so you can get a good idea of what the piece looks like in real life.

The sides of the canvas are deep 1.5" and have been painted as well as the front of the canvas, so there's no need for expensive framing of this piece.
