Flight of the Dragonfly

Art: Flight of the Dragonfly by Artist Deborah Sprague
Truely a beautiful and unique piece! This art Brooch is a combination of raku pottery, fused dichroic glass and recycled copper. The base of the pendant is ceramic clay formed into the dragonfly image. It is bisque fired in a kiln, cooled and hand glazed with a special glaze I make here in the studio. It is then refired to 1850 degrees and pulled RED HOT from the kiln using specialty tongs and welders gloves. It is placed in a pit of Oregon pine needles to "smoke". This is what causes the unique color effects. In a seperate firing process I hand cut recycled copper pipe into the desired depth. I then fuse it with dichroic glass in the kiln. There is a total of THREE full days of firing in the kiln on this piece. It is then assembled and ready to wear. This is my own ORIGINAL design and signed DSprague.
