Dawn Williams is fascinated with the process of discovering truth and beauty in imperfection. Her juxtaposition of bold colors, images, textures, ephemera and metal alchemically fuse the seemingly disparate into the edgy and enchanting. "I am drawn to the ‘feminine mystique’; therefore, my work primarily focuses on the female or on the male and his relation to the feminine. My hope is that my work allows individuals to infuse their own unconscious truth into each piece."
Her fascination with art began at a very young age spending time with her maternal grandmother. When her "meenaw" had a stroke, she returned to oil painting as a form of rehabilitative therapy. Her grandmother’s paintings reverberated with vibrancy, and this is where Dawn believes she first developed her love of color. "I have always felt that the more experiences you have in life, the more you bring to your work. On my journey through life, exploring the world and developing as an artist, I find inspiration for my art in multifarious experiences as well as within the depth and breadth of the human condition." Originally from Oklahoma City, Dawn has traveled the world and returned to her roots in 2009. She has participated in OVAC’s 12 x 12, IAO’s Red Dot, and numerous juried shows both locally and nationally, including the Paseo District and IAO.
Dawn graduated from Oklahoma City University with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, then continued on to graduate from the University of Tulsa School of Law School. While practicing law in Tulsa, she was a featured artist for the American Cancer Society and appeared on and an episode of HGTV; her work has been published in several national publications and is held in private collections both nationally and internationally.
