"The tree" at Rockefeller Center is another one of those special things I love about Christmas in New York. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world! Each year, the manager of the Rockefeller Center gardens seeks out the perfect tree with dimensions of at least 65 feet tall and 35 feet wide and typically a Norway Spruce. The Swarovski star is 9 1/2 feet in diameter and is adorned with 25,000 crystals! The tree helped to brighten the dark Depression days by making its first appearance in 1933. The plaza's skating rink is open from October through April.
On the ledge above the lower plaza is a great gold-leaf statue of the Greek fire-stealing hero, Prometheus. My Corgi vision has transformed him just a bit.....Merry Christmas!
