This painting was inspired by an informal Bharathanatyam dance session at the Natya Leela Dance Academy in Portland Oregon. I was attracted not only by the dancers movements, but by her long and graceful fingers and by the joy that radiates from her face.
This the first
painting in a series that will explore the ancient traditional dance form of
Bharathanatyam, which originated Tamil Nadu in the south of India. This is a multi dimensional dance form
containing, drama through facial expressions, rhythmic body movements, and hand
gestures.
